Adult Mental Health Services

Outpatient Department

The Outpatient Department provides a comprehensive array of services to meet the behavioral and mental health needs of the community. Multidisciplinary staff serves a diverse population of individuals who present with behavioral and emotional disorders, adjustment problems and persistent mental illness.   Bilingual, bicultural services are offered in Spanish.  

Services provided:

  • Intake, assessment, referral
  • Individual, group, family and couples’ psychotherapy and counseling 
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy and brief model therapy
  • Wellness and recovery, psycho-educational services
  • Consultation with community agencies and programs
  • Psychiatric consultation, evaluation and medication monitoring
  • Post Partum Mood Disorder program
  • Children and adolescent services:  individual, family, and group therapy (treatment is approximately 15-20 sessions in length)
  • Parent counseling and education

Justice Involved Services (JIS)

This program provides adults an intensive, community-based intervention service that works to effectively reduce and avoid criminal incarceration for mentally ill adults, at the point of intersection between the mental health and criminal justice systems.  Access to and use of existing mental health and other community support services are coordinated. 

Our goal is to support consumers to maintain stability in the community, prevent re-hospitalization, re-incarceration, and improve their quality of life.  We strive to ensure that our services are culturally and linguistically accessible to eligible consumers.  

Services Provided 

  • Consumer identification and outreach 
  • Systems and consumer advocacy 
  • Individual assessment 
  • Service planning. 
  • Linkage services (financial, legal, medical, social, and/or other community services) 
  • Training and collaboration within the Criminal Justice System and community-at- large 
  • Monitoring of service delivery 
  • Consumer psycho education and support 
  • Family and significant other education and support 
  • Assistance with accessing transportation

Intensive Outpatient Treatment and Support Services (IOTSS)

IOTSS provides referred consumers with appropriate assessment, recovery support and intervention services to achieve stabilization and be able to be treated and supported with community services.

Services provided:

  • Linkage and referral 
  • Individual, Family & Group therapy 
  • Case Management 
  • Psychiatric Evaluation and Medication Monitoring 
  • Relapse Prevention Groups, Illness Management & Recovery Groups

Once stabilization has been achieved, consumers are then referred to other appropriate services available to them.

Partial Care

Partial Care is consumer focused—encouraging each person to identify and achieve their own goals for recovery. Our staff works cooperatively with our consumers to fully integrate into each individual’s community while working to recover from their mental health issues.

Consumers are referred to Adult Partial Care services through a variety of sources and may also refer themselves to partial care.

The programs are:

  • The Prime Time program is an intensive day program that focuses on the concepts of wellness and recovery so that consumer are better able to manage their illness and increase their independent living skills while fully integrating into their communities.
  • The Interact program is an intensive day program that focuses on the concepts of wellness and recovery, assisting consumers to identify their valued roles in the community and achieve the goals they have identified in treatment.
  • The Evening Partial Care program offers a specialized individual and group intervention.  The program is wellness and recovery focused and assists consumers in a supportive manner as they continue to integrate fully into their communities requiring less intensive support from their program.

Integrated Case Management Services (ICMS)

Integrated Case Management Services is an aggressive, community based outreach service that facilitates linkage to and use of existing mental health and other community support services. The program operates 7 days a week with 24-hour availability. 

The mission of ICMS is to provide assistance to consumers in improving their quality of life by supporting enhanced relationships, empowerment, supporting integration into the community,  encouraging use of wellness and recovery tools to prevent hospitalization or re-hospitalization, and working from a strength based perspective to help consumers to realize their potential.

All consumers discharged by  NJ State or County Psychiatric Hospitals to Ocean County are referred to the program, and are eligible for services for 12 months unless accepted by the PACT program or approved by DMHAS for early termination. Consumers referred from other hospitals or community providers are eligible for six months of service if they meet eligibility criteria and are enrolled.

Program Objectives:

  • To maintain community status of consumers at their highest level of functioning. 
  • To provide ongoing, individualized support and monitoring until consumer links or re-links with existing mental health or non-mental health services. 
  • To ensure coordinated and integrated care in the community. 
  • To decrease over-utilization of acute care services by facilitating and/or providing necessary support in the community, 
  • To address quality of life issues including food, clothing, shelter, social, health, and mental health. 
  • To prevent consumers from being lost to the mental health and/or human service system.
