Registered Nurse

Summary of Position: The RN provides direct consumer care and assesses consumer’s physical and psychosocial conditions.  Examples of responsibilities include administering medication injections; monitoring and documenting consumer’s response to medication including presence/absence of symptoms and side effects and reporting to prescriber when indicated; interfacing with pharmacies; reviewing lab results and maintaining sample medication storage.

Specific Responsibilities/Functions/Competencies:

  •  Provides information and medication education via individual medication counseling and written educational materials;
  • Administers Vivitrol injections as prescribed by prescribers for consumers;
  • Monitor and document consumer’s response to medication including presence/absence of symptoms and side effects and report to prescriber when indicated;
  • Provides timely follow-up contact for consumers who fail medical appointments and documents same;
  • Maintain supply of depot medication, needles, syringes, and their disposal in accordance PBHG policy;
  •   Provide pharmacy with prescriptions as needed;
  • Reviews lab results for WBC and ANC levels and report abnormal WBC results to psychiatrist immediately;
  • Provide screening for chronic and acute medical conditions and provide referrals as needed;
  • Responsible for tracking suboxone prescriptions;
  • Responsible for distributing and tracking Narcan;
  • Complete testing for HIV and Hepatitis C and provide referrals as needed;
  • Provide pregnancy tests as needed and refer to prenatal care;
  • Provide nicotine cessation through psychoeducation;
  • Maintains the sample medication cabinet and inventory once a month;
  • Collect wasted medication and out dated samples for disposal;
  • Collaborate with community partnerships to ensure seamless referral and information exchange;
  • Maintain active credentials.
