Mental Health Counselor

We are seeking a Mental Health Counselor for our School Based Program at Brick Township High School in Brick. This is a full time position with benefits.

Summary of Position The School Based Mental Health Counselor (MHC) will receive referrals and conduct individual, group, and family counseling using modalities that are evidence based and consistent with adolescent stage of development. MHC is responsible for accepting the highest level of social, emotional, behavioral disorders and implementing effective student-driven treatment plans to demonstrate successful psychological outcomes.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Effectively provides individual therapy; group, family therapy
  • Demonstrates knowledge of adolescent growth and development;
  • Works effectively with the full spectrum of diagnostic disorders (referring out when indicated);
  • Coordinates services with child study team, guidance departments and other district personnel;
  • Provides crisis management and intervention, when needed.

Competencies:

  • Effectively treats adults, adolescents, and children with a wide range of social/emotional/behavioral identifiers.
  • Effectively manages documentation as required for program charts; (for examples: progress notes, treatment plans);
  • Demonstrates empathy and compassion.
  • Proficiently communicates- written and verbal.

Qualifications:

  • MSW, MS or MA in related field with appropriate license (LAC, LSW, LPC or LCSW)
