Substance Use Program Counselor – IOP

The DARE Program Counselor is responsible for providing psychoeducational groups and case management to co-occurring population. The Program Counselor also provides linkages to resources and completes all documentation in a timely manner. This is a full time position, Monday through Friday, day shift. No weekends or major holidays required.

Responsibilities:

  • Engages Co-Occurring clients and provides explanation of services; Works effectively with the full spectrum of diagnosis disorders.
  • Demonstrates ability to assess clients’ needs, and provide interventions that are timely and appropriate.
  • Demonstrates ability to assess risk category, mental status, level of compliance and motivation.
  • Effectively provides group counseling, utilizing our best practice curriculum.
  • Completes progress/group notes accurately, addressing treatment goals, major clinical issues and changes in mental health status.
  • Links persons served to community-based services to maximize access to services while considering resource gaps and problems of service delivery. 
  • Facilitates access to appropriate services and community mental health, substance abuse services, and non-mental health systems by ongoing individual clinical support and monitoring. 

Competencies:

  • Proficient written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform basic computer functions and use of electronic records as required by job function.
  • Coordinate services with internal and external providers of consumer’s care
  • Works effectively with the full spectrum of diagnosis disorders; Demonstrates empathy and compassion.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or LPN with 2 years experience in addictions and mental health issues. Valid NJ driver’s license.
