Outpatient Therapy (Level 1) &
Recovery Support
Sustaining Your Recovery: What is Level 1 Outpatient Care?
Recovery is not a destination; it is an ongoing journey of growth. For many, the transition from intensive treatment back to daily life is the most critical phase. Our Outpatient Therapy (Level 1) is for ongoing recovery support.Â
Unlike Partial Care or Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programs, Level 1 care is a low-intensity approach (typically up to 9 hours per week). It is ideal for adults in New Jersey who are committed to recovery and no longer require daily monitoring. The goal of this program is to help you integrate sobriety into “real life,” allowing you to maintain your autonomy while receiving the professional support necessary to navigate work, family, and personal growth.
Your Individual Recovery Plan (IRP)
At PBHG, we believe you are the architect of your recovery. We move away from top-down prescriptions and focus on a partnership model. Central to this approach is the Individual Recovery Plan (IRP).
Your IRP is a collaborative roadmap that we build together—and importantly, that you sign off on. It is not a static set of rules, but a “living document” that adapts as your life changes. Whether your goals involve returning to the workforce, pursuing education, or rebuilding family trust, we tailor your plan to support those specific ambitions. We review and update this plan regularly to ensure it reflects your current progress and challenges.
What We Cover: Skills for Life
Our curriculum moves beyond general therapy to provide actionable relapse prevention tools and life skills. Sessions are designed to fortify your resilience against the stressors of everyday life.
- Coping Mechanisms: Developing healthy ways to handle stress and anxiety without relying on substances.
- Trigger Management: Identifying environmental or emotional cues that could jeopardize sobriety and creating strategy maps to navigate them.
- Life Stabilization: Practical guidance on balancing recovery efforts with employment, education, and family obligations.
- Medication Monitoring: For those on a Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) path, we provide consistent monitoring to ensure safety and efficacy. We also offer guidance for regular co-occurring medication.
Flexible Scheduling & Hybrid Options
We understand that at this stage of recovery, you have responsibilities. You may have a full-time job, school, or family duties that cannot be put on hold. That is why we offer flexible outpatient rehab schedules designed for the working adult.
Our Hybrid Continuum of care allows for a mix of in-person sessions at our Ocean and Monmouth county facilities and accessible telehealth options.
- Service Mix: Your schedule will include a blend of individual counseling and group therapy, depending on your Individual Recovery Plan (IRP).
- Case Management: You will have access to case management to assist with external needs, such as housing stability, job support, or legal coordination.
Life After Therapy: Graduation and Support
The ultimate goal of Level 1 Outpatient Therapy is “graduation”—reaching a point where you feel confident navigating life independently. We view discharge not as an end, but as a success milestone.
However, graduating does not mean you are alone. PBHG ensures you are connected with peer recovery networks and community support systems before you leave. Furthermore, we maintain an open-door policy; if life becomes difficult or you face new challenges, our team is always here to guide you on the next best steps.
